Of all the aspects of applicatory preaching, perhaps the principle that the whole sermon is application is most apparent in its organization. Of course, the outline of a message (unless it contains something of significance to the congregation) exists for the benefit of the preacher. Its function is to keep him on course, to aid his memory, and preserve the message in a retrievable form for possible later use. Therefore, the outline should not be announced.1 It is in the message
